Human
Resources & Payroll Service
You
braved another year-end alone. But following the chaos of reporting, reconciliations
and deadlines
the question is, should you save yourself the nightmare
and resolve to find a payroll partner in the new year?
"Few companies are in business to do payroll. Employers invest a
lot of time and energy for something that's not connected to why they
are in business," says Jeremiah Hall, Director of Meza Construction,
Denver, CO.
Outsourcing allows a company to use its resources more efficiently by
concentrating on its core business. It also relieves you of the responsibility
of keeping up with a truckload of statutory compliance issues.
But to reap the rewards, you need the right provider. What counts most?
- Stability.
You don't want the vendor vanishing overnight. You do want someone that
has worked successfully with companies like yours - in size, industry,
geography, and payroll frequency, for example.
- Flexibility.
This is key. Can the provider meet your unique needs? You're not shopping
for 'one size fits all.' Choose a vendor who understands your business.
- Growth.
Can the provider handle related requirements as your business grows
or your needs change? When the time comes to add additional services,
"Smooth integration will be critical," says Hall.
- Partnership.
Outsourcing payroll means entrusting an important part of your operations
to someone else. You'll feel comfortable though, knowing we are standing
behind you. "One of the biggest mistakes companies make is to treat
outsourcing as a purchasing exercise. You're really setting up a strategic
alliance. Conduct the kind of due diligence you would for such a relationship,"
Hall advises.
So
while you'll significantly reduce your workload, the best relationships
do require some effort on your part. To be successful, outsourcing requires
careful planning, buy-in from principals, and frequent communication with
the vendor. The right choice can prove profitable. In addition to cost
savings, the efficient redeployment of management time are rewards that
will show up on the bottom line.
